A Typical Day
The children begin each day with free play. This is unstructured creative time for children to use their imagination freely. During this time the children are working on social skills, learning to listen to one another, share, respect and appreciate their friends.
A daily morning activity is offered such as painting, baking, handwork, crafts, music, or language lesson.
After clean up time is circle time. This is where we all come together as a group to read or act out stories. Sing songs, recite verses or poems and play games. We discuss the days of the week and the weather as well.
Lunch is served between 11:00 and 11:30 and the children are involved in preparing the meal and table settings. We have a learning tower in the kitchen for children to stand on and observe the cooking or baking process. This also allows the children to safely access the sink and counter tops so that they can be involved in washing and cutting fruit and vegetables, pouring ingredients or mixing.
Once the table is set and the lunch is ready we eat together family style at the dining room table. The children are involved in cleaning up their space. As each child finishes eating and clearing the table they gather in the sunroom for yoga.
We spend some time outside after yoga running, playing, climbing and exploring.
After lunch the children prepare their bedding, wash face and hands and brush their teeth. When everyone is ready we join together for a story-either a chapter from a book or a fairytale type of story. Then everyone lays down quietly and listens to soft music as they rest their body and mind.
Our afternoon activities begin with putting our nap spaces away and preparing for snack. Sometimes we bake our snack together, and sometimes we have a simple snack of crackers or fruit. On nice days we eat our snack outside and spend the rest of the day playing outdoors.

Our day includes lots of flexibility! We spend a lot of time exploring the outdoor parks and gardens around our school. The daily activities may change depending on the weather or the moods or wishes of the children. If it's a beautiful fall day we may spend the entire morning jumping in piles of leaves and collecting the beautiful colored leaves we find. If it's a rainy day we may spend more time doing circle songs and stories.
