Interview Process

Enrollment Information

Upon interviewing at First Discoveries Childcare each family will receive a folder of information. This information includes all of the contracts, policy and procedures, permission slips, articles and anything else relevant to our daycare.

Interview

The most important thing you will need to bring to the interview is your child! During this time I will be observing how your child interacts with you as the parents, with me as a caregiver, and with the toys and activities in our preschool environment. I will be asking questions about your childs schedule, temperament, current care situations, etc. This is to find out if your child might be a good match for our program and the other children in my care. Every childcare setting is different, and every childs personality, temperament and needs are different, what works wonderfully for one child may not work at all for the next child, therefore I try to be very aware of what personalities will compliment the other children in the group, and what types of personalities work well together. I like to have a healthy variety personality types. Please let me know as much information as possible about your child so that I can make an informed decision regarding care.

A typical interview lasts about 30 minutes and will consist of:

-A tour of the basement playrooms and upstairs playroom/library

-I will show you a book of photographs taken of all of the fun things we've done over the years

-Discussing your childs needs, temperament and daily routine

-Discussing the daily activities and main points of interest in our classrooms

-Discussing the enrollment paperwork

-Answering any questions parents might have

If I feel the family and child would be a good match for us after the initial interview I will ask parents to let me know by email within 24 hours of the first visit if they are interested in moving forward or would like to look at other options. You can take as much time as you want to decide this, but know that the open space may be filled at any time. Families will not be guaranteed a space until they provide the completed enrollment paperwork and a deposit fee.

After the initial interview, enrollment paperwork and deposit have been given you are welcome to set up a time during the week to come and visit again along with your child. This will give the child a chance to become more familiar with our classroom, the other children and myself with the comfort of a parent next to them. Please limit these visits to 20 minutes or less so that the kids and I can continue to stick to our routine.

Interviewing For Future Spaces/ Waiting List

If you are looking for care months in advance or would like to know when our next opening is I would be happy to interview your family. If I feel the care situation would work well for both your family and mine I will put your name on a waiting list and contact you when an opening that fits your needs is available. Its very hard to predict when openings will occur. The wait may only be a few weeks or may be several months. If you find another care setting and would like me to remove your name from our waiting list please let me know.
